CHAPTER 2 CONSCIOUSNESS OF LOVE
BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE
On TV they mention Global Warming and Global Disasters. They underline that the atmosphere has been warming up and this will be the main cause of global disasters in the near future and we, as the global humanity, have to gain consciousness.
Now, at this moment, they talk about changing consciousness of every human being on earth. What are the things that will cause global warming and in turn global disasters that we will be faced with in the next 10 years and that we are still carrying in our consciousness? We, as the human civilization are on the brink of disasters and unrest.
How did we warm up the atmosphere, move the continents, changed climate, melt down glaciers at the poles, extinct planets and living creatures day by day with our global consciousness? How did we create millions and billions of unhappy and weak people living and dying in scarcity and poverty and are able to destruct each other on battle fields for reasons they do not know?
How and with what kind of a consciousness could we paint such a picture? What kind of hatred, anger and what kind of a Societal Consciousness could bring all the Earth at the edge of “Gulf of Destruction”?
SO FAR WHAT HAS HAPPENED ON THE EARTH AS A RESULT OF THE GLOBAL WARMING?
1 - We are losing the Amazon Forests in Brazil every year. Trees that absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) when they are alive release it back after they die. In case there is three years of drought in the Amazon Forests, the trees disappear in the fourth year. In the last 2 years precipitation in the Amazons has been very low due to the global warming.
2 - The changes in North Atlantic currents are accelerated. Gulf Stream is slowing down because of melting glaciers, etc. This slowing down decreases temperature and changes the climate.
3 – Third, Greenland is melting down. In case it melts down completely, the level of seas and oceans is expected to rise up to 10 meters. This means we will lose the most intense and civilized settlement places in the world.
4 - In the recent years it was established that the Global Warming cools down stratosphere, which is the top layer of the atmosphere. Cooling stratosphere prevents the ozone layer from recuperating itself and delays its balancing.
5 - Thinning ozone layer leads to disappearing of the planktons. Planktons live in the sea and oceans and compose the lowest layer of food chain. Most of the sea creatures feed on planktons. Yet other creatures feed on the creatures that feed on planktons. A rupture of the food chain means the complete chain shall be affected and will disappear in time.
6 – The Saharan Desert becomes smaller every year. Regional winds carry dust from the desert to the oceans and feed the planktons with its minerals. As the Saharan Desert becomes smaller and the ozone layer continues to become thinner, planktons will approach extinction.
7 – The Himalayas and its glaciers act as mirrors and reflect sunlight back. This reflection meant balancing temperature of the earth. Now since glaciers on the Himalayas are melting down, the temperature is not balanced as it was in the past. Also, rivers that flow from the mountains and lakes are drying and leading to drought and famine.
8 – Munson rains have lost their balance. They either rain too much and lead to flood or do not rain enough and cause drought. This means terrible rain and flood disasters and disappearance of agriculture and settlement areas in India.
9 - It is estimated that enormous amounts of frozen methane gases beds on the ocean beds will be exposed out with global warming and increase the temperature.
10 - With frozen earth melting down in regions such as Siberia and Canada, the fossils in the earth will come into open and decay. This means billions of tones of methane gases will come out.
11 - Also, 500 billion tones of a new carbon source unknown so far was found in these frozen earth. It is estimated that these earth will thaw and increase the temperature. This means, we will not be able to stop the disasters after a point even if we want to.
12 - With increasing global warming El Nino oceanic current may appear every year. That might create floods and hurricanes.
You can say “What do all this have to do with consciousness of the human and consequently consciousness of every one of us? The place I occupy on this earth is smaller than the place an ant in my garden. I have no harm. I did not establish those factories. I did not pollute the oceans. I did not cut the trees.” I am sure everyone on this earth would give the same answer. “Have I done all this?” But if was not us, then who was it? “Was it the fish living in the oceans? Was it the plants? Was it the animals? Was it the trees? Was it us?”
With whatever exists in our consciousness, from our habits to our beliefs, from our greed to our gluttony, from our passions to values, from our anger to our hate, from our insatiable egos to our expectations, from our consumption habits to our relationships with the earth and the others, with everything in us “WE” are the reason of global warming and approaching global disasters.
Mevlana said: “Whatever is in the jug, leaks to the outside.” Things that leaked from our consciousness led to the disasters on earth.
What kind of a play is this? Who found the courage to play this play, and when all of us, including the players are passengers on the same ship? We are residents of the same planet called the Earth. We do not have any other planet to go.
How could we hate life and every appearance reflecting on the world so much? How could we destruct the nature and the living creatures in it with different masks, ways, and reasons and not notice that we also destruct ourselves?
If consciousness is awareness, what are we directing our awareness on? What are the thoughts we direct our interest, attention, desires, aspirations and finally actions and the actions that rise out of our thinking?
Let us spend some time on what is in our consciousness and our relations with them. We want to eat better foods, wear better clothes, look better, be richer, have more things, be more successful, and live better lives. Every one of us thinks of owning the best and the most of everything. We make plans and take actions to realize such desires.
Why are we doing all this? We are doing these to be happy, to live in love and peace. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live in peace and in love, desiring to be happy and in abundance. These desires are sourced from every people’s desire to live. And everyone deserves to live in love, happiness, peace, abundance, success and health. Every person deserves to live the best life.
What is wrong are our preferred method and choices to realize these desires. When we realize our desires we want only for “us”. Us here means the “image personality” that is made of ideas imposed on us from young age by our family, environment, education system and other persons we interact.
The image personality, or Ego, created by the societal consciousness wants to make a small kingdom, a private heaven for itself on this world. Unfortunately the heaven ego wants to create for it becomes a hell for others. The societal consciousness made up of our individual consciousnesses believes that global resources are limited and if it shares them with others, will not have enough resources to create its own small heaven. It would use the existing resources either for itself, or for others. And as always, it chooses to use them only for itself. It does not share them. It believes that what is shared will extinct and decrease.
It refuses other members of the society, the others, when they ask it to share the resources with them. If the request of sharing gets harsher, it tries to manipulate or destruct others with various methods. In personal relations it earns hatred and enemies. In international relations wars are waged, global famine, poverty, and hunger arise.
All the resources it shall use to create its small heaven and everything it shall own means “Power”. Power means confidence, esteem, prestige and tools that would bring more than whatever it already has. And it is the only thing the ego needs to build its own heaven and live in it however it wishes. In order to have the more and the better, the ego has to produce more. They mean more ownership and asking for more. Ownership means not sharing. Not sharing means war. War means weapons, dangerous nuclear tests, pollution and waste. It may mean bringing the world at the brink of the nuclear war by pressing a button.
And this is called GREED.
As long as we ask for more of everything for ourselves, refuse to share what we have and be happy with others, the current global consciousness or in other words the societal consciousness will not change. And because change does not happen, global disasters can approach the Earth in a fast pace. In the near future, our kind on the Earth can be deprived of sustainable living conditions, let alone more.
After the global disasters start to happen, human beings will not have the technology or time to stop them or anywhere else to go. Nature in action would not care about how much gold, money or investments we have. It would not care about whom we are, how prestigious or successful we are. Everything happens suddenly.
The only method for human beings to stop the approaching global disasters as a result of global warming is realizing what they have done to the planet. After that they should take precautions to achieve change.
When there is still time, understanding that we have nowhere else to go other than the planet Earth and knowing we compose a whole with other human brothers and living creatures on this planet and learning to share with love, we can evolve into the Consciousness of Love and guarantee our future.
If human beings look into themselves and see the greed of their ego asking for more and better of everything, that can revise and change their consumption habits that form the basis of production. Change of consumption habits would lead producers to produce less polluting and more environmentalist products.
Noticing their greed by humans is noticing their personality that is mentioned in the holy books as craving which causes them to go after illusions and that is responsible of all the evil on this earth. Noticing is taking responsibility of what is being “noticed.” Taking responsibility is finding inside the power to fix and transform it. Once transformation begins, it erases and cleans everything like a snowball coming down from a mountain. Noticing greed is the main gate of other doors of awareness inside us that we will pass from and heal and recuperate ourselves while passing. Noticing greed and transforming consciousness is the messenger of starting some other road and evolving to some other consciousness. This consciousness is the Consciousness of Love.
“Greed makes a person blind and deaf. It hinders seeing the truth.”
Mevlana
“Global citizens should be educated to stay away from envy, greed, and hatred.”
Atatürk
II GLOBAL COMPETITION
It is an inevitable truth that global consciousness is the only condition to prevent global warming. The only way to change the global consciousness is to look carefully at the reflection of the dominating global consciousness on all of us and change our habits, beliefs, thinking patterns, and perceptions. In short, questioning ourselves; meaning our egos, habits, beliefs, judgments, ideas, conditionings, limits, desires, expectations from life and the earth, the kind of earth we would like to live in will ensure and accelerate change of global consciousness.
The global consciousness is made up of the thoughts, desires, wants, fears, hatred, anger and envy that we all produce separately. Until now, the global consciousness and habits that were built in thousands of years led the world to the brink of global disasters. All of us that make up a piece of the global societal consciousness took a wrong step somewhere.
All of us have some expectations from life. Desires such as being successful, esteemed, having a good profession, earning more money, wearing better clothes, eating better food, etc. have nothing bad with them. Our desire towards life ensures continuance of life. What is wrong is asking for more and better only for us and being in “Winning Side” competition with others and on the inside.
We always want to be on the winning side. In our family we want to be the most liked child. If our family likes us the best, our siblings shall be on the losing side. This is not important at all. What is important for us is being the most liked and preferred one at that moment.
Throughout our school years we enter into a cruel learning and winning competition with our friends to be the most successful in our class and school. We have to be the best, the most knowledgeable. And the others shall be losers. That is not important at all. We have to be the best.
In our family life we want to be better than our spouses and benefit the most from opportunities of family life. We want to be comfortable, to have others listen to us, not to be hurt or worn down. The others shall be on the losing side.
In our professional life we enter into a merciless competition with our colleagues and rivals of our company. We want to be the most successful and winning one. The others shall be losers. There are winners and losers. There is rivalry.
There are two sides. And Craving (Ego) always wants to be on the winning side. Ego wants to live happily in its own small heaven. Where there are always “the most”.
The play played on the earth is a merciless strife and war play in the name of “more”. It is called RIVALRY.
And this is GREED and CONCEIT.
“Rivalry” is a competition where one side tries to be better than and superior to the other. The superior side wins. According to the understanding of rivalry, everyone can never be good, successful or superior. Everybody becoming the winner is out of the question.
The desire to be “superior” that is sourced from human’s craving and increased with rivalry brings with itself conceit, envy, and lack of manners, meanness, hatred, enmity, and rudeness.
Mevlana said: “Mind sees through the end of works for it is mind. The mind that does not see through the end becomes craving.”
The societal consciousness did not see through the end and became craving. And unless each of us change our consumption habits, approach to the world and other human brothers, in short our own consciousness, the end is coming with global disasters.
Image personality never imagines that the damage it gives to the world and to itself while trying to achieve “the most” and “the best” will bring its end.
While everybody living on this world is a product of the current societal consciousness and its player asking for “the best” and “the most” for oneself with a heart a slave of such “the best” and “the most”, how will they realize what has been happening on the world and perceive the global warming?
How will people change their desires, thoughts, passions and life style? How can they see the losers, their pain and suffering, the lives that fade away on battle fields, people writhing with hunger and poverty, disappearing plants, seas turning into mud, rising waters, and warming atmosphere? How can they notice?
And the most important of all, how can they BALANCE themselves, the society they live in, their environment and the world.
Image personality (ego) does not know that it exists because of its human brothers, living species and the world. Existence of the others guarantees its being.
From trade to education, industry to agriculture, worker to housewife, businessman to the beggar on the street, tradesman to boss, everyone should ask oneself how we can gain consciousness of the societal consciousness, how can we change it and “balance” the world. Everyone has to do what he can. If you say: “I will not change, let others change” and if everyone says: “Let others change, I will stay the same and continue to live with the same consumption habits, same beliefs and same thinking patterns,” than nothing would change. Do not forget, you are one of the OTHERS for other people.
Firstly, there is only one “question” that everyone has to answer for oneself. This is the most valuable question you would ask yourself in life. “Do I want to leave others behind me? Or do I want to see them by my side? Do I want others to win, as well? Can everyone be a winner at the same time? Can I, the others and the world become winners at the same time? How can we live in a greener world, in peace and happiness?”
In short, as humanity: CAN ONE BE FOR ALL? CAN ALL BE FOR ONE?
Can we create the new World Modal that we all will win? Can we change our production modals, factories, schools, industry, international cooperation and rules of trade in a way to ensure all would win and can we apply that?
“I” will win, “the others” will win and “the World” will win at the same time (Plants, species, ecological balance, atmosphere, and the seas shall keep their rhythmic balances and will remain unpolluted. Sustaining their existences without getting polluted and staying in balance is a win for the nature and the earth.)
Unless everyone living on this planet seeks for answers to these questions mentioned above, change would not start.
The change will not begin unless you are interested in the others and nature becoming winners.
The societal consciousness will not begin until your change begins. Thus, we would continue our robotic lives because habits, beliefs, conditionings, values of the societal consciousness that causes the global warming are not questioned individually in all of us. We would be waiting for the others to change themselves and other things forever. The others would be waiting for us to do the same thing. And while we are waiting for each other, time will draw closer to the final hour. After that hour, we will not be able to change a thing even if we want to, because we will be dealing with the immense problems that disasters bring.
According to the reports prepared by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the next 5 years there can be an effort to reverse the planet-wide disasters. It is underlined that after the 5 years that the reports point at, reduction of emission or other preventions and precautions will have no value to save the planet.
Change starts with questioning. Questioning is a journey to the inside that people accomplish for themselves. Change in every field in the world happens only when humans change on the inside. Things that our governments or authorities present to us as change and progress, such as industrial development, becoming a more wealthy society, progressing technology, producer-consumer indices, growing economies can look like positive developments. However, they have no meaning when compared with the changes in the planet that the United Nations, climatology specialists, renowned scientific academies, and the IPCC are informing us to be waiting for us due to the global warming and climate change.
Economic growth and technological developments that economists and presidents of countries inform us have no effect in terms of balanced and homogeneous development of global societal consciousness throughout the world, increasing consciousness and creation of a global consciousness. Societal consciousness was transformed in every century and with every technological development. However, it has never been changed. Things that are in our consciousness, expectations, desires, wants, the way we achieve them, our covetousness, our greed, our conceit, our passion to be superior, reasons of our hatred have stayed the same.
Since the first humans, our destruction of the Earth, trying to be masters of the nature, fighting with our human brothers, jealousy, values, ignorance, trying to be superior to each other, resisting accepting others, strives, none of them has changed. They might be changed in shape or colors but they have never changed. In the past we were fighting with bows and arrows, now we have guns and nuclear missiles. We are still fighting. “How” we fight and “with which tools” we fight are not important. What we must see here is that we are still “FIGHTING”. The Hot War became the Cold War. The Cold War changed in appearance and now it is known as “Hot Rivalry” in the global economy. It is “survival of the strongest.” There are “winners and losers.”
In first societies we fought to gain power. When we won, we managed losers as how we wished. We tore down everything that we faced. We did not care for our brothers or friends. We did not care for our friends or enemies. There was “Rivalry” in every era. There were winners and losers. The manner of rivalry has changed but what is real is that we are still in “RIVALRY” in the 21st century. We are still carrying greed and conceit in us and continuing to damage the others and the world is the TRUTH.
The understanding and mentality of rivalry carries with it envy, covetousness, hatred, greed, conceit, meanness; the passion of being superior, being better, having more and taking ownership.
All these traits are peculiarities of the craving, or the ego. These emotions blind and make the human a modern savage. Rivalry is a peculiarity of our Human-Animal Consciousness. Because Darwin said: “you have to be the fittest to survive.” Since the first humans we have been in rivalry to be fit. We need the best and more of everything to be fit. We believe that we have to be in rivalry while achieving more. There is I and the others. One side will be the winner and we want to be a winner.
But now this understanding and acceptance can change. We can voluntarily change this rule on the inside.
With every moment the world triggers global warming and increasing temperature with its factories, full capacity reactors, old methods of production in all continents, consumption of fossil fuel, releasing carbon into the atmosphere, dumping polluted water and wastes on the nature and in addition drifting into consumption madness with unbelievable advertisements and invitations, insensitivity, laziness, and conflict of interests. Condition of the planet, atmosphere and other environmental formations is getting more serious.
In short, Planet Earth and the living species are not in a position to accept rivalry anymore. Humanity should inevitably reach a compromise. Human consciousness should create an understanding of “How to Live” without strife, rivalry, anger, hatred, trying to be superior to each other and without winners or losers.
The global societal consciousness that we are all members of should change and recreate itself. To recreate ourselves, we have to die with our current consciousness (consumption habits, understandings, thinking patterns, and expectations). In short we have to empty our consciousness; question our lives, desires and methods of achieving such desires and redefine them.
When majority on the Earth start to change, change societal consciousness will accelerate.
What if we do not change?
I mention the global humanity because the disaster is at global scale. Life and future of all the human family on the World is at stake.
In case the global society cannot achieve the change in consciousness the current societal consciousness will continue to feed GREED and CONCEIT of the wild capitalism. Wild capitalism will come up as more waste, pollution, dangerous gases, seas turning into mud, species of fish facing extinction, other species facing extinction, global disasters, and disruption of global balance.
As the global humanity, we have only one path to go. This path is the road of Love and Peace. In order to walk on this road of love and peace, we all should realize the consciousness of love “inside ourselves” and never give up on it. Love cures everything. It is the true power of mankind.
ONE MAN CAN BE FOR ALL HUMANITY AND ALL HUMANITY CAN BE FOR ONE MAN.
“The human kind was created as the most honorable and superior of the creatures. But what makes a man human is possible with researching, finding and applying those values that are important, obligatory, and necessary for life.”
Mevlana
III ESSENCE OF CHANGE – AWARENESS
Consciousness means awareness. In short, it means becoming aware of something. Awareness is focusing on something, objects, thoughts, and desires. As soon as awareness becomes aware of the object, consciousness emerges. For this reason, we cannot talk about gaining consciousness of the consciousness. However, we can mention consciousness, in other words awareness, changing the facts, objects, understandings, limits or beliefs, whatever it is focusing on and the “relationship” between them and itself.
When awareness leaves the objects or facts it had been focusing on and focuses on other facts and objects or changes the shape its relationships with them, it is called change of consciousness.
We the peoples of the world can start to change our consciousness when we shift our awareness from winners-losers; how to achieve “the best” and “the most”; every belief, hate, grudge or anger that separates us from others and prevents us from loving and knowing them like ourselves; our consumption habits that make us slaves of the material to issues and objects of “love,” “sharing,” “peace,” “healing the world,” “how could we live happily and in peace together”.
“Our dreams and thoughts create our future.”
“A human’s life is a human’s dream.”
Andre Gide
For some reason, when we talk about the global warming, we always talk about precautions that factories, the industry, multi-national corporations need to take; what penalties would be given to them; what sanctions would be applied to pollutants and what would be done with gaseous and waste products and even commercial use of such wastes.
It is believed that the global warming can be stopped and disaster can be prevented only by giving penalties to factories, industry, institutions and people who create waste products, applying sanctions and signing international agreements.
Without any doubt, precautions should be taken, sanctions should be applied, and institutions that create waste products should be punished. Agreements and cooperation are must factors for preventing global warming and global disasters.
The problem is, international cooperation, agreements, signatures, precautions, sanctions, and penalties are not enough on their own. For global societies to gain consciousness and maintain a sensitive balance on environmental issues, we also have to focus on education.
Every product is produced for sale to the global society. Every company, small or big, mentions us as the “target group”. In globalizing global economy, the target group might be the whole global society.
Production and marketing companies are engaged in a crazy research on our psyche to market us the products that we do not need. They create unbelievable advertisement modals to push products to our subconscious and create conditioning to buy. We go and buy those products. We do net even question why. We are just lie robots that can be programmed again. The producers know us better than we do. We are no longer ourselves.
We do not really question what purpose do the products that we buy serve, or how helpful they are, whether they are harmful to us and the environment, or not.
People fall victim to consumption habits that are created out of them. They have to earn more money to meet their increasing needs and in order to earn more money, they have to be successful and present more abilities. We have to earn more money to catch up with our incited consumption motive and keep on buying more.
Earning more means consuming more. Consuming more means producing more. Producing more means more environmental pollution and faster approach of the global disasters.
Consequently, global pollution and warming shall continue to increase with factories that produce carbon during production, dump their wastes to the seas and rivers and with animal and plant species that are killed to become raw materials. As long as every one of us continues to consume more, asks for more and keeps up with the same habits and beliefs, we would invite global disasters. This vicious circle will continue.
We are responsible for everything that happens on the world. * We are mistaken if we are thinking that industrial leaders, polluting factories would be closed. * We are mistaken if we are thinking that producers of weapons and war technology would no longer produce weapons or conduct dangerous nuclear tests. * We are mistaken if we are thinking that leaders of dominating countries take action with the whole globe in mind.
Why?
Because we are not changed. Because contents of our consciousness and relationships are not changed. Because our consumption habit, desires, wants, expectations, beliefs, and limits are not changed.
To change the societal consciousness, first we have to change ourselves.
“Be whatever change you want to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi
Can you imagine how much damage have the Earth and all the living creatures and systems it carries, the Earth’s nucleus and orbit seen as a result of the nuclear tests that have so far been done?
Do you know what are the things kept secret in underground labs that scientists are engaged with?
Do you know anything about the biological weaponry they have created; atoms, radioactive materials they have been playing around with and tests they conduct?
What shall we do with the financers, researchers, managers and marketers that are involved in creation of such technologies?
What kind of a punishment will we give to them? What kind of a sanction will we apply?
How can we be sure of the evil, greed, hatred, lack of virtue, ordinariness, and unrest in the human mind and its greedy ego?
Can we also punish hidden thoughts, desires and soul of the human that would create greedy and destructive results?
Until where can we punish and apply sanctions?
How shall we be guard keepers of every human’s soul?
Right at this point we can see how necessary change of the societal consciousness in every individual composing the global society is. Unless we all change individually, we will continue to create thoughts and actions of the same societal consciousness that creates global disasters.
We can change the societal consciousness and in turn, the world’s destiny when we change our relations, thoughts, wants, beliefs, limits, thinking patterns, judgments, and definitions related with individual humans.
In order to create this change, first we have to look inside ourselves and at our environment with courage. We have to quit asking for the more of everything and asking them only for ourselves. We have to be happy with existence of the others. We have to be able to see the unrest of our desires and wants. We have to be able to notice our thinking patterns, conditionings, judgments and who is “the real us”. We have to be able to decide what we will keep and what we will change honestly and with a positive inclination of the soul and without any outside influence. We have to notice the dynamics of cause and effect rules in our choices, relations and expectations, break such dynamics and transit to the consciousness of love that we try to achieve. We have to be able to pass from thinking patterns of lives to free lives. We should not be afraid of change and changing.
Change of the societal consciousness depends on the change in all of us.
We can achieve unconditional giving and sharing when we accept others as ourselves and the world as a complete organism that we live in.
We can achieve giving and sharing when we can learn loving others and the life on the world again.
We can love when we can each form a balance in ourselves, in our emotions, thoughts and moods.
When we form a balance, we love ourselves. We can accept ourselves as we are. Accepting ourselves means to get faced with every inner attitude.
People can love others if they love themselves. People who do not love themselves cannot love others. You can see whatever is inside you on the outside. “You can never see what you do not have.” You have to find love in yourself to see it in the nature and in all people. With this love, with the consciousness of love we can become “harmless” for the harmless nature and the others.
Forming the balance is a point of centralization and spiritually satisfaction that happens when we can look at what is inside us, our minds, emotions, wants, greed, hatred, and all our emotions about ourselves, in short, our image personality without fear and when we can honestly and clearly see what has been going on with us.
When we can honestly look at what is inside us, we know what needs to be done. The award of honestly looking inside ourselves is peace. When we feel peaceful we can look inside us more. We can find the balance as we look inside us. We mature as we find balance.
Maturity has noting to do with ageing. Maturity has to do with comprehension and noticing the reality about us inside ourselves and being “Our Reality” or not. We start to change on the outside with our change on the inside. Change is reflected on the choices we make and decisions we take.
Our choices and decisions start to cover other human brothers the world as we find balance and mature. As we change; our relations, environment, habits, beliefs, and limits start to change as well. In this way, we evolve into the consciousness of love.
When we walk on the road of love and peace, our biggest assistants will be compassion and mercy we will show to ourselves, to the others and to the world. Pain and severity of our transformation process would diminish with developing compassion-mercy emotions and abilities.
Compassion is the power and ability to allow for the change processes of ourselves and of others, to allow for becoming who they are and keeping our balance while doing all of this.
Feelings of compassion and mercy feed our power to love, respect and embrace others and the world.
While we are evolving into the consciousness of love on the road of love and peace, we cannot cause production of the consumption that would pollute the world and lead it to disasters as in the past. We would become a delicate scale. We would simply love ourselves, the others and the world.
If the global humanity can feel enough compassion and reflect it in every dimension of life, thoughts, and actions there would be no war or war technology. There would be no hunger, no famine or disaster.
And the societal consciousness changes because we change. Production modals change because of the changing societal consciousness. The global warming and the world finds balance because of changing production modals. We change destiny of our kind and the world we live on because of the world finding its balance. We become masters of what we were taught and our destiny, not their slaves.
“Human is not the strongest of the species, nor is it the smartest. Those that can fit in change can survive.” Charles Darwin
IV DYNAMICS OF CHANGE – HONESTY AND SINCERITY
“Either look as how you are, or be as how you look.” Mevlana
While we are evolving into the consciousness of love on the road of love and peace, establishing grounds and determining a change to build our changes on the inside would make our change sincere.
The first thing we have to do for change is being honest to ourselves. We have to stop lying to ourselves. If we can be honest to ourselves, we can be honest to others, as well.
How can we be honest?
At our age honesty is subjective. Everybody evaluates things from behind one’s glasses and according to the honesty of one’s ego.
Honesty has been changing in shape according to our interests and satisfaction of our desires. It has been assuming several shapes. We have long forgotten why and how should we be honest.
We have to have a solid and all encompassing understanding and awareness of “honesty” and “sincerity” in our personality while we are defining right and wrong, good and bad and while we are using such values in our society, communication, works, and our change.
If we lack honesty and sincerity in our personality, we confuse concepts of good-bad, right-wrong, beautiful-ugly. Everybody living in the society has one’s own good-bad, right-wrong. If we go further, everybody has one’s own understanding of justice and communication methods.
Being honest is simply being HONEST.
It is being sincere with us. It is being honest only for oneself. Humans know on the inside what they can do and what they cannot do or what they want and what they do not want and what they can be. Humans know in the corridors of their inner selves how liar or how objective, how right or wrong they are. They know their cravings. They know their greed, wants, hatred, needs, how to get them, interests and addictions. All we have to do is to look inside without fear and see ourselves as we are.
Once we see and take ownership of what is inside us, we can solve it. In order to solve something, we have to see and define it.
For instance, if we are complaining about disloyalty of our friends, we have to be able to look inside us. How loyal are we to our friends? How much are we there for them? When do we call them or want to meet with them? Maybe our friends are complaining about our disloyalty and carelessness. If we can look inside and see this, we can correct our relations with our friends as we correct our behavior, become more sensitive about love and our friends and rebuild our communication on grounds of love.
However, the first condition of correcting our relationships is seeing in ourselves our approach to and relations with our friends honestly and sincerely and defining our communication and relationship with them. After that, we can take action to change our behavior and make decisions to rebuild ourselves.
Whatever our decision about rebuilding our actions and the road we choose may be, they will give us peace. We made our decision and choice honestly. Honesty always pays with inner peace. We did what we could. We saw ourselves, took the responsibility of change, and changed ourselves. And we are in peace.
In the short run we may think our honesty harms us. Maybe things will go wrong for a while and we will lose things we own. Maybe we will lose our so-called friends. After we start to walk on the road of love and peace, anybody is welcome to leave our life and our side. They have never been ours, anyway.
Despite everything, we will be peaceful. We have been honest and are changing to progress on the road of love. We do not lie to ourselves anymore. We have been honest and sincere to “us” who is the most precious.
When we start to be honest, we can see human greed. We can see our consumption habits, wants, desires and inclinations that do us apart from ourselves and our human brothers, in short, everything that has to change so we can walk on the road of love and peace. We can see the others and the world.
We can see the big picture, the world, the others and how the global system is interconnected. After a while our conscience starts to function independent of everything. Our conscience becomes free. We feel peaceful and happy.
Every time we lie at ourselves and be insincere, we depart from love and peace. We become one person today and another tomorrow. At last, we find ourselves to be a mess of different persons with different desires and aims. Finally, we cannot even recognize ourselves. As we get estranged to ourselves, we get estranged to the society and the world that we live in. The most important of all, every moment that we are not sincere to ourselves we die in our hearts again and again.
To bring peace, happiness and love in our lives, leading an honest life is the only gift we can give to ourselves and to our world. Besides, honesty is contagious. It brings a strong and courageous personality with itself.
When you are honest, the others will have to be honest. According to Sufism that was born in Anatolia and that is based on love of humans and creation, the world is a universe of mirrors. Whatever we sow in ourselves, in the hearts of our human brothers and in the world, so shall we reap. Even when we plant wheat on the soil, we reap a thousand crops when time comes to harvest.
As we experience honesty and sincerity to ourselves and “be” on the road of love and peace, we would find honesty and sincerity in the reflections of others on us.
The mirror cannot show to us someone other than ourselves. Cleaner the mirror is, brighter and sharper the vision is.
“When I stood in front of you like a bright mirror, you looked at inside of me and saw your own reflection. And then you said: ‘I love you.’ But you love yourself that is inside of me.” Halil Cibran
The societal consciousness that we are members of shall change in time because we choose to change. Because societal consciousness changes on the road of love and peace, plants, atmosphere, ecosystems, in short, everything will start to find its balance. Production systems shall change as a result of our changing behavior towards the nature and the others.
V ROBOTIC LIVES – WHAT ARE WE?
In order for the human beings that are residents of this world and creators of today’s civilization to transform their consciousness to the consciousness of love, first we have too se on the inside and determine what kinds of “things” our current societal consciousness serves and what kind of a civilization we created together.
Because what we can see on the outside world is only what is inside us.
Everything and everybody we see in the world, in our relationships, wherever we look at, are mirrors that reflect us in one way or another.
The way we can see our physical body with our reflection on a mirror, we can see and notice what is inside us from relationships and reflections of the world on our mind, and our experiences.
We can never see what is not in us.
If we want to see improvement in our environment and our relationships, change and balance in the world, more loving people, a greener world, abundance and justice, we have to be able to realize all such peculiarities and change in us, in our lives. The world and other people are just as who we are.
Our inner observation of ourselves shall change a lot of things about our world. The human factor lies at the basis of everything. Every societal or planetary event starts and ends with human.
Once we can understand the human, we can solve everything. In order to know the human, it is enough for everyone to look inside oneself honestly and sincerely. There would be no problem unresolved.
In the last decade we have had the global warming problem that posed an increasing threat to our planet. In order to take precautions that would stop the warming, international agreements were signed. Sanctions were put in place. Some signed and some did not. In the past such negotiations were not different from other news that we followed on TV and thought were of no concern to us that would not happen to us. As years went by, we started to hear more of such news. As importance and amount of news increased, we started to be globally and regionally affected by the results of the global warming. In some regions we had disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic explosions, and hurricanes; while in other regions we had decreasing crops, desertification of land or drying up of rivers.
In the general globe, we see its effects as longer summer seasons, disappearance of spring and autumn of the four seasons, and increasing temperatures.
To continue, disappearance of drinkable water sources, desertification, loss of productivity in agriculture, etc.
On reports prepared by the United Nations we read that activity on our planet has been increasing every day, the glaciers have been continuing to melt down, temperatures have been rising and there are animal and plant species that are faced with extinction.
In the last analysis of the conditions that our planet is in, we have some questions that would shed light on our road to produce solutions and take action, in case they are answered on the inside.
Where are we the humans in the middle of the picture of the world? What are we doing for ourselves and our planet?
Are we ready to assume responsibility of our lives and our futures, for whatever it takes?
Are we ready to cherish life and our existence on the Earth and transit to a new existence on the Earth in a way that suits the human dignity, even if the whole world turns against us, or if we lose everything or all our friends leave us?
Are we determined to consciously choose our evolution? Do we have the necessary desire to simplify our lives and change our consumer habits to clean the planet of plastics, junk, dangerous waste products and heal it? Are we ready to leave “competition-rivalry” with ourselves and with others that triggers our consumption and in turn, old production types?
Are we ready to cooperate with our human brothers for a humane existence at any time and anywhere? Are we ready to face “ourselves” in the real meaning of the word? Can we unconditionally and eternally forgive ourselves and others? Are we as “human” as to assume and carry responsibility of our “destiny” on the world?
If we can positively answer all these questions, we have a chance to become the masters of our destiny on the Earth before it is too late.
If we answer negatively, our destiny and our next step in evolution, meaning our form of existence are in the hands of the societal consciousness, the global capital and those that shape it.
The direction and choices of the current societal consciousness are known. If we want to continue to be a part of this consciousness and if that would be our choice, we would continue to do what we have been doing. We would continue to be whatever we think and are. We would not change anything, including ourselves. If that is our choice, we have to simply know and be sure that our direction will not be any different from the current world and its more serious conditions.
If we want to live in a different world and change “something,” then we have to assume responsibilities of change, improvement, amelioration and our lives.
As we change by assuming responsibilities of being human and of our future and with our world that we help change, we would have a brighter, cleaner, and livable future that suits the human dignity.
In our process of change, unless we give our all and work on ourselves as humans, we cannot change or gain consciousness.
Change necessitates seeing “ourselves” as we are.
Humans cannot change unless they see how robotic they have become and that have made slaves of goods and habits-thinking patterns-beliefs.
When we realize that we live a robot’s life, we can risk losing that robot’s life to create the reality of life. We can re-win the world and life on it when we realize that.
After noticing things that have become robotic in our lives, we can set on our inner road.
From the foods we eat to the TV shows we watch, from things we talk with our friends to our gestures and mimics, to taking the same road to work every day, from getting angry at the same people for the same reasons to our dressing style and to our hair, to the work that we do, to our daily worries, to our desires and passions, to the sentences we say and to our thinking style, everything is the same.
A humanity that is uniform and ordinary, that gets born, grows, reproduces, madly consumes, competes and finally dies.
We are a mass that has been on this Earth for centuries and suffering from the same poverty and misery, in the same strife and war, carrying the same worries, being deceived with the same description of the same world, carrying the same grudge, hatred, fears in the heart and missing “life” just like the others.
Our user’s guide is in the hands of the societal consciousness that made us believe world is in this way and it shall not change. The societal consciousness has only one thing on its agenda: “to be like the others.”
Think about it. Have you ever woken up early in the morning and watched the sunrise? Have you ever stopped in front of a flower and watched its beauty while you were going to your job early one morning with the same worries on your mind? Have you ever smiled at somebody without any reason and asked how he was doing? Have you ever lost yourself in waves of the sea? Have you ever thanked your boss who fired you and walked towards a new beginning with hope? Have you ever loved someone by getting out of all your identities and just for the sake of one’s essence? Have you ever left watching your favorite TV series and started to chat with your loved ones? Could you ever forgive your colleagues despite everything and have a cup of coffee with them as friends? Could you ever live for only yourself without caring for someone else? Could you ever feel yourself valuable just for being on this world and out of all your labels?
Could you ever leave everything you own, societal values, beliefs, thinking patterns, limits, labels and walk towards change just to be yourself? Could you ever stand in the middle of your loneliness? Could you stand in the middle of chaos inside and outside and still look at the future with hope and dream of the perfect world for yourself and others?
The world is a mechanical system. Just like a machine. The universal laws, societal laws and values revolve together like gears of a big machine. If we try to stop ourselves, the ones with robotic behaviors, in this system we could stop the whole machine or understanding.
For instance turning inwards more; quitting watching TV, racing, fighting, aggression; changing our eating habits or changing anything that we believe is not good for us leads to a halt in the hear that we turn with the people around us. When we change something in us, we lead to a change in everything that is related with us. The other “things” have to rearrange themselves and their behaviors according to our new “state”.
Whatever does not rearrange itself according to our change and change with us simply goes out of our lives.
Those that fit in our change, change with us and stay with us to realize deeper relations and friendships in our lives. Yet other people that are in the lives of others who stay with us and change with our change will experience similar chains of experiences in their lives and relationships. As a result, waves of change continue. Changing the simplest thing in our lives resembles a stone we throw into the ocean.
When we change, our environment starts to change. When everyone can make such changes in oneself everybody in the world affects each other and the global humanity starts to change. However, change is a long walk. It necessitates leaving robotic thinking and actions and making decisive choices.
As long as humans lead completely mechanical lives made up of robotic behaviors, they cannot realize they are living mechanical lives. I order to notice or see robotic behaviors as they are, the humans need to get out of their mechanical lives and take an objective look at their own lives.
Life is full of choices. Knowingly or not, we are making choices every minute. From what we would wear to what we would eat, from what action we would take upon a given incident to where we would go, from what we would say to what we would listen to, from whom we would spend time with to what we think, we live in the world of choices.
If we do not let the picture of the world we would like to live in disappear before our eyes and our hearts and keep our determination our change gains a strong acceleration.
We can define our change as evolution if we leave those beliefs, thinking patterns and judgments that deprive us of happiness and love, try to realize with love what pass from our hearts and if our lives help our human brothers to realize a world where they are “themselves” and happy. The change we are going through has unification, recuperation and love and supports everyone around us to be self and realize what is in their hearts. In the end, everyone is physically and spiritually healed. Living what is in our hearts is being we. It is being love. The heart is the essence and love. Love expands to sharing, reflection, happiness, joy, mercy, compassion, modesty, and serving with love. These are feelings that come from the heart.
If our change feeds and grows our ego; if we are feeding on rivalry, conceit, greed, fear and anger, our change becomes our transformation. If we are in grudge, anger, fear, greed and conceit, we cannot be in love.
There are two basic emotions. They are love and fear.
Fear expands to worry, conceit, greed, anger, hatred, rivalry, helplessness, insufficiency and worthlessness. These are emotions that come from the ego.
When we do not live in our hearts and be “ourselves”, we drift away from our essence, which is love. Our true nature decays, dissolves and corrupts. The reason behind corruption of all the ideals, moral systems, values and physical world are simply human beings’ drifting away from their true nature, which is love.
In such change, there are decomposition and loneliness. Change wants to be separated from and destroy the others and asks for the most and the best for itself. Its consequences are pain, tear, corruption and destruction. In the end, everyone and everything physically and spiritually corrupts and dissolves. We get estranged to ourselves. Finally we cannot recognize ourselves. Departing from love means pain and darkness.
Once we get out of our robotic lives, look at ourselves objectively, decide on which way to go, give honest and sincere decisions, guard our choices, leave what is old and embrace what is new, find the courage to be “ourselves”, and cherish life and love, we can progress towards the consciousness of love.
We are on this world to be ourselves. We are here to realize ourselves. And we, as human kind, have a meaningful existence compared with other species. We are conscious and aware of “ourselves”.
And as humans our essence is love.
We are on this world to realize and cherish love and reflect on, protect and preserve other species with love. Because we know what do love, reflecting and sharing mean.
When we let go of robotic behaviors and lead a life with awareness everything in our lives would become expansions of love. We would have abundance, beauty, friendship, peace, a wonderful world. Human beings have the power to realize and become love. ESSENCE OF THE HUMAN BEINGS IS LOVE. They just have to be “themselves”.
Human beings have no other option than evolving into the consciousness of love and comprehending that love is the only road to go to continue with their existence of the Earth.
Change goes towards either evolution (unification) or destruction (corruption). Humans’ choices determine the type of change.
While we still have time we can choose to be the “masters” of our destiny for ourselves and our planet.
“Be whatever change you would like to see on the earth.” Mahatma Gandhi
“There is one more secret, other than the ones you have solved One more light, other than these lights Do not be satisfied with anything you have done, go beyond it There is one more thing, other than all works.” Hayyam
IV IMAGINARY LIVES – HOW REAL ARE WE
“If you want the sun to reach you, get out of the shade.” Confucius
In our lives, values of our experiences are determined by the power of such experiences to change our lives. Experience, by nature, comes with movement, synchronism and object and allows us to progress and evolve and move as self-possessed and resolute individuals by creating interaction in us.
Why do we want to be more self-possessed and resolute individuals?
We want that to make our lives more real, to express ourselves better in this world and present a “life” that we want to express, that our hearts approve. We want that to change.
If we had been living solitary lives and never seen “the others” and known the value of a humane life, we would have had no reason to deal with ourselves as much. Why would we have felt the need to reflect on and share with each other? If it was not for “the others” we would have never perceived that we “exist” and progressed even the smallest step in the evolution of our consciousness.
Source of progress is our life experiences. Good or bad, happy or sad, all of them leave us a pearl whose value we would later grasp. People that enter our lives, people that leave our lives, chat, moments of small happiness... All of them are centered on “human relations”. In fact we are all indispensable for each other.
“Things” that we find to be valuable only after we lose them. They are human relations.
Since the beginning of the Age of Technology times, friends, loves, relationships drift away from within our hands like sand. Until when will we sit in front of the computer for hours and try to express ourselves, look for friends, and find an old word or an old poem to warm us or catch a “Valuable Moment”? For how long will we use only our “minds” next to the computers and hide in the “Imaginary World” ignoring our emotions, soul and more importantly “the other people”
How are we going to release the power of life in all of us while the world is being pushed to loneliness with “globalization” play, humans are being estranged, the values that make people human are being pulled out of even our memories and getting imprisoned in imaginary lives?
How are we going to do something for the rest of the world while we do not even extend our hands to our neighbors?
Wars are on TV, others’ lives are in series, friendly greetings are in e-mails, even loves are imaginary. In the past there were love letters and photos. Dried flowers were kept.
Now imaginary passionate lovers have imaginary e-mails in imaginary groups with imaginary flowers and digital photos.
People that grew tired of angry crowds, that could not deal with the real life, that could not control their emotions and themselves, that ignore the world, that live inside walls like ants in big cities and that forgot or would like to forget real humane communication choose a “softer” vegetative state.
This kind of life is called imaginary life. You would not get very hurt in this life. Life is at the tip of your index finger. When you click, it appears before you. When you are bored you can close it. Nobody can upset you. Even at this moment you end all the ugliness, disgrace and ruthlessness in the world in your imaginary world with one click.
The ruthlessness of disasters, savageness and disgrace can end for your imaginary world. But you are asleep. You are under the charm of your imaginary world. But for your real world all the strife and chaos that you cover with one hand still continue. On your real world, where you live, produce, consume and realize all your experiences together with your human brothers, on your planet that is your field of experience.
And you are real because this planet is real and you are a resident of this planet.
And real societal consciousness is imprisoned in imaginary worlds by those who hold global power consciously, systematically and according to their interests.
And in the real world there are war, savagery, destruction, hunger, poverty, pain, an exhausted planet and a struggling human mass that missed being human and life.
Taking shelter in the imaginary world is refusing all this truth. It is closing eyes to all this drama. It is ignoring this drama.
We enter into vegetative lives accompanied by inaction and ignorance because the imaginary world numbs our feelings and because our feelings carry the motivations that set us into action. We lose the pace of changing ourselves, gaining consciousness, developing and growing since we do not have enough tolerance to interact with the world and other persons and have been losing this ability in imaginary environments.
We live in the imaginary world with our careless, pedant, short-sighted, arrogant “ourselves” in us that are after small gains for what it calls struggle of life.
Nothing changes in our lives. Why? ... There is no action. We are not living with our hearts. We numbed our feelings.
But we have to leave the shade if we have a feeling of discomfort in us, if we are fighting with depression, if we have been dying of loneliness, if we do not have a real neighbor visiting us, if our phones do not ring, if our friends have long deserted us, if some hope in us have been bothering us without any reason and if we really missed the sun and “to live the life”. We have been standing in the shades. We are the ones standing in the shades.
The sun is at everywhere. If you do not take action, you will always stay in shades. And one day you will notice that sun of the “life you did not live” is embracing arms of the night. And you will not be able to walk towards the sun even if you want to. The sun has already sunk.
“The sun,” is chats you make with your friends, it is an evening walk you take with your darling, it is looking into the eyes of your friends and listening to their worries and touching their back, wiping away tears of a young child, smiling at someone without any reason, adding meaning to the life of a human brother, growing flowers on balcony, reading books, loving, laughing, sharing. Maybe it is leaving something in your life. Maybe it is changing your job. Maybe it is changing your apartment. Maybe it is doing “things” that really touch your heart.
Going out at the sun means believing that you still have a choice and that you deserve a better life and changing.
Change is possible with making choices. Making choices is possible with noticing the poverty and destruction that the world is going through. It is to see and notice the truth. It means comprehending clearly what is happening in the world.
Comprehension takes a person to choice. Choice starts change.
There is always a better way for life.
“The sun” is living the life really, as a human being, without fear and by feeling it in your heart.
“The sun” is being you despite everyone and everything. |
